Tutoring job

As-salaamu ‘alaykum

I have a question regarding haram money.

My husband does private tutoring for university students and he makes really good money. Do we have to pay tax for it or do we have to claim it since he receives cash on the spot. I want this money to be halal as I have 2 boys and want to bring them up with halal money.

Please let me know.

Your husband’s job is halal, therefore his income is also halal. If it is a government requirement that he pays tax on it, then he should do so. Otherwise, he is entitled to the entire income.

However, if by having such a job, he is committing a federal offense, he should consider making his job legal so that it complies with the law of the country as well. The government laws should always be adhered to, despite the fact that the income is halal according to shari’a.
