A person performed hajj tamattu’ but did not offer a sacrifice
Question
Assalam Alaikum
A Haji performed Hajj Tamattu. He did not sacrifice an animal but finished performing the rest of the manasik. What is the recuperation(Talafi) for this?
Answer
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما
If a mutamati’ (a haji who is performing tamattu‘) cut their hair before offering a sacrifice, they will still be required to sacrifice an animal for hajj. However, because they delayed the sacrifice until after the 12th of Dhul Hijjah, they will be required to pay a penalty known as ‘dam‘ (sacrificing an animal). Also, because of cutting or shaving the hair before sacrificing an animal, they would have to pay another penalty of ‘dam‘
In total, one would be required to offer three sacrifices: one for performing hajj tamattu‘, one for delaying the sacrifice until after the 12th of Dhul Hijjah, and the last one for cutting the hair before offering the sacrifice for hajj tamattu‘.
It should be noted that all three sacrifices must be offered in the haram and one would only be allowed to eat from the animal that was sacrificed for hajj. As for the latter two, they must be distributed amongst the poor.
