Calling one’s wife his sister

If a person calls his wife his sister, will his wife be divorced?

الجواب حامدا و مصليا و مسلما

In the aforementioned scenario, divorce will not occur. Although one should avoid referring to his wife as such since the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) specifically prohibited from doing so. Consider the following hadith:

Khalid al-Hujayni (may Allah bless him and give him peace) narrates that a man once said to his wife, “O my sister!” Upon hearing this the Messenger (may Allah bless him and give him peace) asked (in a rebuking manner), “Is she your sister?!” The Messenger (may Allah bless him and give him peace) disliked this and prohibited (him) from doing so again. (Abu Dawud)
