Conditions which make Hajj compulsory

Question

What are the conditions which make Hajj fard?

Answer

 بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

Performing hajj is fard upon every sane, mature Muslim who has the physical and financial capability to travel to and return from Makkah safely. It is necessary that one has enough wealth for his journey for Hajj as well as to support his family in his absence. However, if one lacks the physical capability but fulfills the rest of the conditions, they should perform hajj when they regain their health. If their physical condition is such that they are not likely to recover enough to be able to go, they should send someone to perform hajj on their behalf. Consider the following hadith:

‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that a woman came to the Messenger (may Allah bless him and give him peace) and asked, “O Messenger of Allah, the obligation of hajj which Allah has prescribed for His servants is binding on my senile father but he cannot sit firmly on an animal. May I perform hajj on his behalf?” The Messenger (may Allah bless him and give him peace) replied, “Yes, you may.”
