Eating while leaning against something

How is it to eat while resting one’s back against something or leaning on one’s left hand?

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

It is against the sunnah to eat whilst reclining or leaning on something. Thus, doing so would be makrooh (disliked). Consider the following ahadith:

Abu Juhayfa (may Allah be pleased with him reports) that the Messenger (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said, “I do not eat while leaning.”

(Bukhari)

‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger (may Allah bless him and give him peace) was never seen eating while leaning. 

(Abu Dawud)
