Giving monetary compensation due to inability to fast

Answer
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما
If a person misses a fast during the month of Ramadan, they should try their utmost to make up for that fast at the soonest possible time. If due to health reasons, one is no longer able to fast (nor is there hope that they will recover from this condition), monetary compensation must be given in lieu of each fast. This compensation is known as fidyah and must be given to the needy (those who are eligible to receive zakah). The fidyah of one missed fast is approximately 1.6 kg of wheat or its value.
