Numbering Qur’anic verses in English

Can Aayat of Quran be numbered in English?

 بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

The Qur’anic verses have only been numbered by the ummah in a certain manner/language. Due to this it would be better not to number the verses in any other language. The reciter already reads in Arabic, it would be recommended that an effort was made to comprehend the numbers in Arabic as well.
