Performing qasr in one’s place of residence
Question
Zaid was born and brought-up in Bombay. He migrated to Toronto with his family, bought a house and other real-estate. He is a Canadian citizen now and he earns his living here. Now he travels (Safar Sharee) frequently every week for a few days. While he is back on Toronto with an intention to leave again in a few days, should he perform Qasr in Toronto or pray as usual? In this case, is his Land of residency (Toronto) invalid or not. How a land of residency becomes invalid?
Answer

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما
In principle, one is not permitted to perform qasr in the city of his permanent residence even if they only intend to stay there for a couple of days at a particular time. Therefore, Zaid will pray full prayer in the aforementioned scenario.
The city of permanent residence only changes when one permanently moves to and settles in a different city; constantly traveling to a distant city will not affect it.
