Reciting the opening and closing verses of Surah Baqarah after burial

Question

In a book it says when someone passes away to read first ruku baqara on one side of the grave and last ruku on other side. Is this an established practice?

Answer

 بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (Allah be pleased with him) narrates, “When a person passes away, do not keep their body and take him quickly to their grave, and recite the opening verses of Surah al-Baqarah at his head and the concluding verses of Surah al-Baqarah at his feet.”

( Shu’ab al-Iman)

Based on the aforementioned athar of Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), many ‘ulama have deemed it a good practice to recite the opening verses of Surah al-Baqarah at the head of the deceased and the concluding verses of the Surah by his feet.
