Should Muslims Celebrate Mother’s/Father’s Day

As salaamu ’alaykum,

Is it appropriate for Muslims to celebrate Mother’s Day or Father’s Day?

الجواب حامدا ومصليا ومسلما

As Muslims, we should not get caught up in holidays that hold no significance in Islam. These particular holidays have nothing to do with religion as they were created in the 18-1900’s. Parents are held in high esteem in Islam. The honor of one’s parents is not such that it should be recognized once a year. Rather, they should be honored and respected at every moment in a person’s life.
